Well that’s it folks, summer over! Time to getback to normality and into routine (which, I must admit, I thrive on).Thankfully I’ve a super job and a great employer that allows and positively encourages flexibility. At the end ofthe day it’s about trust, my boss knows I’ll work, come what may, whetherthat’s laying on the beach, dishing up dinner or running around like a headlesschicken – which is mainly what I do! But hey, I’m a fairly good-lookingchicken, admittedly the feathers are a little ruffled but not bad on the whole, and may I also add, a chicken on a mission, a chicken who keeps the end goal inmind and keeps all her proverbial balls up (or should that be eggs) high in theair!

You see, it’s really a very easy formula, work hard, play hard and it’s all about building trust with an employer. Let’s face it working flexibly and remotely when you need isn’t an easy role to find but when you find it’s important to earn trust, work hard and ultimately deliver.

Back when I worked in London, it was the norm to work remotely, to take work home, oh hell yes, you put the tv on or the radio, get up to make a coffee but your mind is focused, you come back to the workspace, whether that’s in your study or your phone and you work! We are all accountable for our roles in life, whether that’s being a parent, friend or an employee.

Fortunately, tempsinmalta found me the perfect role, with an excellent company who embrace remote working, it’s been an absolute blessing. As a busy working Mum, we all have our different hats and those hats have differing priorities so it’s super important to maintain a good work/life balance.

So now summer is over and the new scholastic year looming, I’m busy buying from my daughters ever expanding stationery schoollist, I mean, come on, why does a 5-year-old need a set square and protractor,I’ll buy it, but I’ll buy a cool pink glittery one, that way if it doesn’t get used it looks good in her new pencil case haha. I think I’m actually a secret stationery ‘magpie’! And then onto the extracurricular activities she wants to do this year, now that’s a minefield all of its own, will it be karate, drama, ballet, taming wild horses, herding cats, ok the last two actually aren’t activities but goodness me, so much to choose from! And of course she has to get there so it all needs to be factored into my working day. At this point in my life it’s paramount that my daughter is the centre of my world, she’s young and needs me but I also need me, I need me to be happy, motivated, eager and out in the big wide world building on my career and maybe even building on my academic career too – something I’ve been pondering over for a while now. But I need to think how I would juggle that, would I go back to temping, which I adored, so much flexibility and you get to experience all different industries and meet some fabulous people on the way or do I reduce my hours down further …… food for thought ..
