What do people really want these days? Often we go about our days asking this question and listening to all sorts of replies. Some want the obvious disposable income, others want a break from home, others are out to prove something usually to themselves and some, well maybe several, have no clue! Why is this so? Why is it that in a society of instant gratification, where we are trained to use our left brained, to be goal oriented, to be driven, we are faced with so many dilemmas when it comes to our career, or more simply having a job? As Malta’s first ever temping agency, we deal with a lot of women. We also deal with men, but often, we find, the flexibility and the convenience of temping, is alluring to mothers, young women, multi taskers, and experience seekers.
As women, society constantly forces us to choose between being a full time mum and having a career. The irony being that as young adults we are all encouraged to further our education and to do well, so that we can be successful later on. Yet we seem to come to a crossroad, which hinders our corporate performance, since we are trained to believe, that we can only be truly successful to the performance of a business, if we work way beyond the recommended hours in a day, forcing us to abandon other life dreams and hobbies, and resorting to a lifestyle that hinges on stress, increased cortisol, competitive behaviour and poor eating habits. What about the strive of so many women, who have the right academics and experience, to set up their own ventures or even be employed in large corporations, whilst simultaneously tending to other ares of their life?
Whatever happened to good time management skills, a nurturing and effective support system, effective delegation, and hard working people that choose to not waste time, get things done, and be successful whilst balancing it all? We must learn as a culture that as women we can do both and we can be successful at both, although much of it depends on your work ethic and style and your commitment to both your family and your goals. We also see men, who start in one path and end up on a totally different path. We need to break down the stereotype that just because you have studied accounts for example, then you can never go into the creative industries.

If you have a dream, that most likely will require you to achieve a certain skill set, set out and obtain them. With a good backing and a good drive and personality, there’s nothing stopping you from getting what you want. Whatever it is that you may want, that is. More is not necessarily better. Confidence over being humble is not necessarily better. More prestigious titles over smaller ones are not necessarily better. You need to figure out whats right for you at that point in time and set a clear plan on how to achieve it. Today you may be thinking one way, and in five years you may be thinking very differently. One of our main goals here at the agency is to support and help people to understand what they really want at this point in their lives, and provide a platform that enables them to maximise their wishes whilst still leading a very balanced life. Now can someone pls take that call?! “Hello tempsinmalta, how can I help you?”
